Written patterns and diagrams

I have realised that I am not fond of written patterns. I mean I am a designer and I write them but I think that it is better to have the written pattern, a photo of what is worked – if possible- and a diagram.

I am, in fact in favour to diagrams. They are concise and clear. There is no misunderstanding. It does not matter if you use UK or USA terminology- the symbols in the diagram are universal and assist and helps the written pattern.

In addition, when writing the pattern, it seems to me as if you are complicating the pattern, which is usually not as complex as the wording we use to describe what stitches we use.

Therefore, I have decided that all of my designs will have a written pattern (in UK and USA), a diagram and a hopefully a photo of the row. The later is quite difficult but I will try at least the more complicated designs to have a photo.

I have been working with Stitchwork Software and I am very pleased. Not only it is free - but it does what it needs to do. It has the stitches, the designer just rearranges them according to the design. If there is no particular stitch - you can create it. It is quite cool!
