The trolls have started

It is one entry I didn’t want to make but it has to be done. It was a matter of time.

I love crochet, I love patterns and logic behind it.

I am also honest and I like to present transparency to my followers as much as possible. I mean I will make my patterns free - I cannot be more transparent than that.

I also like to follow rules - no need to break the law when you have your imagination and creativity in your side.

Today, a dancer- according his account on Instagram - wrote that I have stollen the diamond motif scarf pattern that has been published in Simply crochet magazine.

I would like to clarify: I used a crochet technique similar to corner to corner techique, building blocks of 5 stitches to accomplish the look of the motif/scarf.

No one so far has made a scarf using this technique - mainly blankets and cushions. I am not the only one to use this crochet technique not the last one that is for sure.

In addition, the same look can be achieved by working the c2c crochet technique.

I didn’t steal any patterns. According to the Uk copyright law - I quote:

‘It is important to note that copyright protects the way in which an idea is expressed – for example in a particular drawing or piece of writing. Copyright does not protect information, ideas, styles or methods, such as a particular type of stitch or ribbing, or the idea of a polo neck.’

This clearly states that a method or technique cannot be copyrighted same as specific basic stitches.

Therefore, the use of this crochet technique in which I use 5 stitches in a block on which I work more blocks around is not copyrighted.

This also means that the person who claimed the pattern of the blanket has fulled themselves that this crochet technique is their own creation.

A crochet technique is not owned by anyone and not only one person can claim the exclusive use of this technique.

And finally - of course the items I.e. my scarf and the blanket made by the same crochet technique will resemble - they are made with the same technique!

I hope this clarifies the issue.

Please read the copyright law and understand what can be copyrighted,  what is a stitch, pattern, technique and copyright in general before you make any accusations.

I hope you are having a better day than I am.

I got really upset from the ignorance and arrogance of some people and unfounded accusations.
